Super Simple Way to Cut Tennis Balls in Half

Just need a sharp chef’s knife and cutting board. Others have used band saws, electric knives, bread knives, and miter box saws but a big sharp knife is all you need and it’s fast! Tennis ball halves are very useful as mini cones for bicycle, motorcycle, and other obstacle courses on pavement. You can usually get dead tennis balls from tennis centers or tennis clubs, no need to buy new ones.

*NEW TIP* as of 9/1/2021 - while a sharp chef's knife works well it still takes some strength. Another easier option is to us a sharp and pointy paring knife with a sturdy blade to pierce the tennis ball first vertically then continue cutting around ball on the cutting board. Steak knives tend to have blades that are too thin and flexible but a good paring knife worked very well for me and the initial penetration required less force than the chef's knife blade slice technique. Also folding blade knives are not recommended unless they lock in place because you could cause the blade to fold up when attempting to pierce the tennis ball.
