Gravity has been known to science since way back in the 17th Century when English physicist Sir Isaac Newton first laid out the principles of the theory of gravity. Until that point there had been many theories to explain why things drop down instead of, well, not dropping down. Now we understood how it worked and one of the most important rules of our universe was established.
