If your not sure what a cloud backup is then let me try to break it down in simple terms. Let's think about this scenario, you have smashed the screen of your phone and you don't know how you are going to get any of your photos or contacts back. If you have an iCloud account on your iPhone, iPad or iPod and made sure that your backup is switched on, on your device then you don't need to worry because your photos are safe and backed up to the cloud.

If you ever need to access your photos again you can log in to www.icloud.com on your home pc, laptop or tablet, sign in with your iCloud details which would be your Apple ID and your password.

So now that we have talked about what iCloud is, then you should understand a bit better why so many people set up an iCloud account on their devices.

You can back up a number of things to your iCloud but the most popular and main types of things to backup are usually your iCloud contacts and your iCloud photos.

In this tutorial, I will show you how to create an iCloud account.

If you have more than one Apple device then you can sign into each other them with your same Apple ID and password. Doing this means that you can sync all your photos and what not to your other devices seamlessly.

When you first go to create a new iCloud account you will have two main options, the first one is to use your existing email address as your Apple ID or create a free email account specifically for iCloud.

Personally, I would recommend using your own existing email address purely because it means that you are not having to remember so many different logins. I'm sure your world is surrounded by email addresses, usernames and passwords already so there shouldn't be any need to create a new iCloud email if you already have an existing email address.

I can't stress enough that it is always good practice to remember your log in details or even store them somewhere safe as you don't want to run into an issue and find it hard to rectify it if you don't remember your logins.

With every Apple device that you purchase you will always get 5GB of free cloud storage. This storage is completely separate from the main storage of your phone or tablet.

I think this is where a lot of people can get confused by iCloud. It's not one of the easiest things to get your head around when you are new to the iPhone.

If you are backing up your photos on iCloud and you start to get some sort of notification explaining that your iCloud storage is almost full then this is where you have a few options.

The first option is to pay Apple for more iCloud storage. The second option is to start deleting your pictures, videos or even apps off of your device. It all really depends on what is using the most storage on your iCloud.
