Restored in 4,000 Hours?! The One-Off Pontiac You’ve Never Seen Before 🤯
This is the 1965 Pontiac Vivant — a forgotten, visionary one-off born at the height of America’s 1960s design revolution, captured in one of the most surreal settings imaginable: sliding onto the frozen lake of St. Moritz during The I.C.E. St. Moritz.
Conceived and hand-built by Herb Adams, the legendary Pontiac engineer behind the Trans Am, GTO Judge, and Super Duty 455, the Vivant was his personal answer to what a truly beautiful American sports car could be.
Shaped in Adams’ private Michigan studio, the Vivant’s flowing aluminum body was inspired by the futuristic Alfa Romeo BAT concepts and formed entirely by hand by former Rolls-Royce craftsmen known as the “Beatles of Troy.” Beneath the skin sits a bespoke multi-tube spaceframe chassis with custom suspension, built specifically for this car alone.
Power comes from a hand-built 405 HP Pontiac Super Duty V8, originally developed by NASCAR legend Ray Nichols — giving the Vivant performance to match its dramatic looks.
After debuting at the Detroit Autorama in 1966, the Vivant vanished for decades. Rediscovered in 2009, it underwent an extraordinary 4,000-hour restoration by JEM Motorworks, with Herb Adams himself contributing firsthand knowledge. Finished in its original Nassau Blue, the car returned to the spotlight at Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, winning First in Class in 2017.
A true American dream car — imagined by one man, built once, and never repeated.
