Nissan Leaf Drivetrain Custom ECU - Vlog #2 - Best Off Road Electric Monster Truck Build

Hi, this is the way how to cheaply convert any car to electric, without purchasing any expensive aftermarket parts, or spending a year of your life trying to make it work!:) We are talking here about converting or building your car with the Nissan Leaf battery, Leaf motor assembly, and the custom-made control unit with the display, that actually makes all the original Leaf components to communicate with each other and work properly. IT MEANS IT CONTROLS ALSO THE BATTERY AND THE CHARGER, NOT ONLY THE MOTOR! If you are into conversions, you know how significant this is, because this kind of ECU is the first in the World.

This video is for people, who might be interested in the custom ECU (always includes the display), or any product configuration related to the ECU. That means:

Option 1) ECU only (you will need to do modifications to the Leaf wiring harness, add the relays, the control switches and the VW throttle(we are working on the integration of Leaf throttle)), connect the ECU to it, so you will need to follow the guide and the wiring diagrams (that might not be straight forward for some of you) and do some soldering of dozens of wires. It took us two days to get it done. You will be fully responsible for any ECU damage if you wire it incorrectly). You order it directly from Sweden from the websites in the pictures, it is 865 Eur minus 43.25 Eur after your discout code OFFROADEV, plus shipping, plus brexit tax. So, somewhere around 850 pounds total.

Option 2) ECU integrated into modified Leaf wiring harness and with the other components, all is tested and is plug-in ready for your conversion. We managed to integrate the relays, fuses, and connectors into the small plastic box and wired it properly, and it is the part of the whole modified wiring loom. You just connect several plugs and go, it is compact, always removable and you don't irreversibly mutilate the motor wiring loom if using this. Photos and videos soon. Price for the modification is 250 pounds, you supply the ECU with the display, 3 complete main wiring looms (under the bonnet one, under the dash one and under the carpet one - looms only from the 2013-2017 models - they have the drivetrain integrated into one assembly as the pic shows), and the complete small dash panel where the ignition swich and other 6 switches are located as the pic shows. You will receive the complete and tested plug-in control system.

Option 3) The whole tested and plug-in ready kit of the 24kWh Leaf battery pack with 11-12 bars, the Leaf motor assembly (the whole 2013-2017 unit of motor+inverter+charger+DC/DC (with or without the Leaf gearbox and the driveshafts based on your application as explained later*), all the original Leaf high voltage cables including charging ports, the complete Leaf control system as explained in the option 2, the accelerator pedal, and the control switches. The price for all of this is 5000 pounds, and you supply only the ECU in the way explained in the option 1. If you mount the Leaf motor directly onto your gearbox, so you don't need the leaf gearbox and the driveshafts, there would be 200 pounds off the price. If you want to remove the brake from the gearbox, or want to use the other Leaf components instead of the ones from your car, like Leaf electric steering, the leaf cooling pump, the Leaf radiator etc., it will be extra.

Option 4) You supply the 2013-2017 Nissan Leaf car of your choice, the ECU as stated in the option 1, and an extra amount depending on the state of the car. You will receive the complete kit for your conversion/build as stated in the option 3.

This is by far the cheapest EV conversion/build on the market. As you might be aware of, you can do your conversion/build by purchasing aftermarket battery, motor, inverter, charger, and DC to DC converter, that might drive the price of your conversion up to mid 5-figures amount. And preferably you better be knowledgeable with the specs of the components so you pick the right ones, as well as be good with the wiring and programming.

Then you might start looking at cheaper options with used components from cars like Nissan Leaf, and after spending hours and hours on various forums, you will find out, that after disconnecting the unwanted parts from the original Leaf wiring harness, the system will not work. Then you find some aftermarket motor controllers for about 300 pounds, with a poor customer service, and the guidance in such technical language, that makes an average guy completely lost in it. And still not a sign how to control the battery, and the charger. Eventually you will end up with buying an aftermarket charger, and the battery control unit, and that is in a direct contrary with your original intention of doing it economically. And, you still have to rig it to make it somehow work together.
