Christmas in Europe is more than just December 25th — it’s a season that lasts for more than a month. First comes Advent, the time to anticipate the “arrival” (advent) of the baby Jesus.

The Feast of St. Nicholas is December 6th, celebrated mostly in Catholic countries with lots of gift giving. December 13th brings Santa Lucia Day — a highlight in Scandinavia. Then Christmas Eve on the 24th, Christmas Day on the 25th, the Twelve Days of Christmas until January 5th, and the Epiphany on January 6th.
