Starting the Caterpillar D6-C Bulldozer (Music no one appreciates included free!!!)

Here I am showing how I start our 1972 Cat D6C Bulldozer. This is a 45 year old tractor, and I wasn't given the operator's manual or service manual, so I don't have the official starting procedure. Just learning about the machine! We inherited it from my Grandpa. He also had a 1942 Caterpillar D7 cable blade that we sold to a museum.

I'm creating this video series to show my kids and cousins how to use the machines when I'm not available.

Note that I inadvertently edited out another step - checking the diesel fluid level. The tank and fill cap are located behind the operator's seat, and a dipstick is in place under the cap. It would be a shame to run out of fuel while working in the woods, and have to walk back to the barn and get a can of diesel and the tools to bleed the air out of the system!

This is a 1972 Cat D6C 10K series. Considered one of the best machines for logging here in the Pacific Northwest. Small enough to thread between trees, yet heavy and powerful enough to clear brush and skid big fir and cedar logs.
