“We hardly eat once a day”

More than 3.7 million people require humanitarian aid in Niger. Amidst the poverty, food shortages, and the increase in the number of displaced persons, vulnerable people suffer additional challenges when they also have to grapple with the effects of natural hazards or extremes, such as drought or floods.

The European Union is one of the leading humanitarian donors in Niger. EU humanitarian aid provides emergency and life-saving assistance to people in need in conflict-stricken areas and regions affected by epidemics, widespread food shortages, and high undernourishment rates among children.

Oxfam is one of the humanitarian organisations that the EU supports in Niger. The purpose of Oxfam’s project is to support people in fragile contexts who risk losing what little they have to crises, be it food and nutritional crises or weather-related ones.
