101 Likes vs 100 Likes 😳 Same Post? | Eventual Consistency Explained | System Design EP8

Same post… different data?

Bug? 🤔

Not always.

This can happen because of a System Design concept called:

Eventual Consistency ⚡

In large scale distributed systems, updating everything instantly is difficult.

Instead:

User action happens ✅
Response is fast 🚀
Cache, replicas, and other systems sync in background 🔄

For a short time:

User A → latest data
User B → old data

But eventually everything becomes consistent ✅

This is the tradeoff behind many large scale systems:

⚡ Fast response
✅ High availability
⏳ Temporary inconsistency

Because System Design is all about tradeoffs ⚖️
