Carbon Graphite Foam Experiment (Dehydration of Sucrose)
This experiment is the dehydration of sucrose, or the carbon graphite foam experiment. What happens is sulfuric acid is added to sugar. Once they come into contact they acid starts to pull the hydrogens and oxygens off the carbon ring leaving a black carbon foam. This reaction is a lot like the elephant toothpaste reaction.
Reaction begins at 4:06.
