Examining Halo's Desperate Rescue Attempt

The mission Keyes in Bungie's Halo Combat Evolved should have been something incredible, perhaps even one of the best levels in Halo Combat Evolved's brilliant campaign.

A desperate attempt by Master Chief and Cortana to free Captain Jacob Keyes from the clutches of the Flood, the mission's set up is one of the most exciting in Halo Combat Evolved's entire campaign, but unfortunately in gameplay terms, it falls a little flat.

In this video, I take a look at everything from Keyes' level design and gameplay to its story, scary setting and horror atmosphere, to try and explain why it's a bit of a disappointment, while also drawing comparisons to Truth and Reconciliation, Two Betrayals and other missions in Halo Combat Evolved's campaign.
