A Woman of Aran
Today ICC Digital is delighted to bring you this beautiful short film ‘The Woman Of Aran’, directed by Thomas O’Donoghue. It features Brid O’Griofa, a native of Inisheer (one of the Aran Islands), as she reflects on life in pre-modern times. With sublime black and white and coloured archive footage and exquisite photography, this six-minute film is a beautiful tribute to the people of Aran and it quietly stirs the senses and the soul.
Thomas O’Donoghue is an artist, filmmaker & writer from Dublin.
His work is primarily concerned with aspects of a philosophical nature, (ontology/phenomenology). He endeavours as a filmmaker to construct films that are rich in classical symbolism and focus on strong visual narratives. He works across documentary, drama and artist’s film.
In 2015 he graduated from the University of Kent, Paris Campus, with a Master's Degree in Film, (Philosophy & Aesthetics). Whilst in attendance he specialised in Spectator Engagement, Modern Cinema & Modern Art. During that time, he spent a semester researching at the Cinematheque Francaise.
Prior to this he graduated from the University of Wolverhampton (through Colaiste Dhulaigh, Dublin) with a First Class Honours Degree in Film & Video Production.
My work has been selected to screen at a variety of festivals, including: ‘Visions Du Reel’, ‘London International Doc Fest’, ‘Docs Ireland’, ‘Galway Film Fleadh’, ‘Fastnet Film Fest’, ‘Guth Gafa IDF’, and ‘The London Irish Film Festival’.
Thomas is also a published poet and he recently started writing for theatre. To find out more about Thomas go to WWW.tommyodonoghue.com
