WCBS 2 Covers Paws of War's Reunion for Retired Military Working Dog and Handler After Five Years

Paws of War, a Long Island-based nonprofit dedicated to helping military working dogs and veterans, celebrated the heartwarming reunion of a retired military working dog, Remco, and his first handler, Nick Martucci. The organization facilitated the emotional reunion and safe transport of Remco from South Korea to the United States. To honor his five years of service and safe return home, a retirement celebration was held at Paws of War.

Remco, a military working dog, served for over five years in South Korea. His first handler was Airman Nick Martucci. The two formed an incredibly strong bond during their year together, a bond that helped Martucci navigate the mental challenges of deployment. After Martucci returned to the U.S. and retired from the military, Remco continued his service. Despite the distance and time, Martucci never gave up hope that he might one day be reunited with his canine partner.

Through their efforts, Paws of War arranged for Martucci to fly to South Korea to be reunited with Remco, who had just retired. These are complex mission that come with significant cost. Paws of War covered Remco’s transport and lifelong veterinary costs and dispatched a global rescue coordinator, Nikki Dawson, who accompanied Nick back to Korea as part of the mission to bring Remco back to the USA for his retirement. Remco is now home in New York with Martucci, who is a police officer. The pair are mutually supporting each other once again, just as they did in South Korea.
