Irresponsible Oceanic Whitetip Shark Feeding - Daedalus reef - Red Sea
Oceanic Whitetip Shark is very common in the Brothers Islands and the Daedalus Reef. Sharks swim right in the surface and often meet near the safari boats and at the end of the dive as divers board the Zodiac.
Oceanic are very curious. They swim calmly close to the divers and may stay in the area for a long time. In general, the behavior of sharks is completely harmless.
However, due to various factors, accidents have not been completely avoided. One reason is to feed the sharks and get used to the "free" food. This changes the behavior of sharks and may trigger more and less unintentional attack.
At the turn of the year 2018 - 2019, Brothers Island had to be closed to divers due to multiple degrees of contact. Now the Brother Islands are allowed to dive again.
Unfortunately, we were Daedalus Reef witnessing the dumping of food waste into the sea. At the same time, we got an idea of how shark behavior changed in the situation.
Hopefully this activity will be completely stopped.
