Virtual OMSI Science Pub: National Parks of the Pacific Northwest – Incredible Treasures of Geology
National Parks of the Pacific Northwest – Incredible Treasures of Geology with Scott Burns, PhD, Professor of Geology at Portland State University.
We have six incredible, exciting national parks here in the Pacific Northwest. Dr. Burns, who has been teaching a course at Portland State University on the national parks for 28 years, is a specialist in the geological history of these parks: Rainier, Crater Lake, Mt. Lassen, Redwoods, Olympic, and North Cascades. In his 45 minute- long talk we see beautiful photos from each park highlighting their geological history, human history, vegetation, exciting sites to visit, and basic geography of each park.
At the end he mentions one of our newest national parks, the Ice Age Floods National Geologic Trail (Missoula Floods), but only a couple of photos because it takes a whole lecture to cover this subject. All are invited to learn about our beautiful national parks and their heritage.
