The "Grenzschutzgruppe 9" (GSG9) - "Border Protection Group 9" is the elite special forces unit of the German Federal Police. It was founded in 1972 after 11 Israeli athletes were killed by Palestinian terrorists during the Summer Olympic Games in Munich.

The "Spezialeinsatzkommandos" (SEK) - "Special Deployment Commandos" are the SWAT teams of the police authorities of the German federal states. Each state has its own SEK. Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg have two because of their geographical size.

The "Beweissicherungs- und Festnahmeeinheit+" (BFE+) - "Group for conservation of evidences and arrests" is a counter terrorism unit of the German Federal Police and was founded after the terror attacks in Paris in 2015 to support the GSG9.

"Polizeiliche Schutzaufgaben Ausland" (PSA) - "Police Protection Tasks in Foreign Countries" is a specialized unit of the German Federal Police tasked with providing personal security for German diplomatic missions in conflict regions.
