Double Stops for Beginners [By Ear Bluegrass Mandolin Lesson]

Graduating from beginner to intermediate level can have a big component of double stops leading the charge. This video teaches how to find the correctly stacked (lead and tenor) melody and harmony notes to a simple beginner song, Twinkle, Twinkle :Little Star, in a high and low octave, including some basic theory and the double stop number system.

After learning how to find the descending passage with good double stops, we take that little part and apply it in a different context in the B part of the old-time fiddle tune Arkansas Traveler. It's a perfect and basic example of how spending good time fleshing out the study of internal repertoire can lead us down the road to leveling up with more traditional jam session material, so you're getting double your mandolin miles so to speak.
