Jesse "Bam" Rodriguez was 14-0 when he took a fight with Ex Champion Carlos "El Principe" Cuadras on a six day notice. When Robert Garcia received a call asking if he and Bam would be crazy enough to accept a fight versus Cuadras, Garcia said yes automatically, without hesitation. The promoter asked Garcia, don't you have to check with Bam and his father. Garcia replied, make the fight happen, I know Bam and his Dad will say yes.

Bam turned pro in 2017 in Mexico City, MX and was heavily promoted across several promotions and networks looking to land a big opportunity. His trainer Garcia helped land him on show on PBC Fox and Top Rank ESPN summer series. In this interview Garcia shared that the networks and promoters didn't show interest in him, maybe because of the lower weight Bam competes in.

Eventually Mikey helped Bam land on two of his undercards which happened to land on the DAZN network. And it was Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing that signed Bam to a multi fight deal.

Bam is the youngest current world champion and the first champion born in the year 2000.
