Things I wish someone told me before studying architecture
Realize that 👇
The knowledge you get at university alone won’t secure you a job in the future.
Practical experience is essential.
Here’s what I did during my university years to grow faster than most of my classmates:
1. I started internships in architecture studios from my 2nd year
I sent my CV to around 20 firms.
Only 2 replied.
But even those 2 replies were enough to understand what real architecture work actually looks like.
University teaches you theory.
Internships show you what skills the market really needs.
2. I started looking for real projects
I asked friends, relatives, and people I knew if they needed help with home or interior design projects.
At 19, I found my first client through a family friend.
I made my first interior design project.
And the money I earned paid for my trip to Prague.
That first project gave me more confidence than any university task.
3. I built connections with other students
Architects are often introverts.
But networking is extremely important.
The people you study with today can recommend you tomorrow.
They can invite you to projects.
They can become your partners.
They can open doors you would never open alone.
And that’s the most important thing.
Don’t wait until university ends.
Start getting practical experience now.
