All of you know that spring pesticides on wheat or any other crop without the need of time is wastage of money and also cause deterioration of environment as well food quality. So it is very crucial to look at several factors before making decision for application of fungicide on against wheat diseases especially the Wheat Rust.
1. Always try to cultivate rust resistant wheat varieties and if you have sown rust susceptible variety like Faisalabad 2008 you must be vigilant or have to spray preventive fungicide.
2. If you have used higher seed rate than the recommended quantity it may create conducive micro climate for rust development by hindering light penetration and air circulation both of which increase the relative humidity in your wheat field.
3. If you have made an excessive use of nitrogenous fertilizer then there may be need of fungicide spray as more succulent crop is more susceptible for disease and insect pests attack.
4. Frequent and injudicious irrigation also makes your wheat field more prone to fungal diseases. So you may have to go for protective fungicide spray.
5. Be updated with weather conditions prevailing in your area and if conditions are getting conducive for rust development them go for fungicide application otherwise there is no need if you have cultivated rust resistant approved wheat varieties.
6. Be alert for disease outbreak in your surroundings and if it spreading profusely then don't wait for the attack go for preventive application in time.
