My first introduction to a 'Master Class 30' Centre Console - My colleague Pole and I were really impressed!

Her current owner provided this information about the history of the brand:
'The boat was built in 2007 by Chris Bowra under the name of Masterclass Boats. Mastercraft ceased as a boatbuilding business sometime after 2007. The hull is a Blaxell 28' design with a motor pod included to give an overall length of approximately 30'. I have searched Blaxell boats and some have the same design of the pod to accommodate motors. The console was a Keywest design, I believe. Five identical boats were built in 2007 each with 2 Yamaha 200 HP outboards. The hulls were built above the specifications (22mm) to strengthen the craft. Consequently the boat is heavier than originally designed, but the result is a beamy, stable and strong craft ideal for offshore fishing. '

While it is suggested she is a lot stronger than the original Blaxell hull, the boat performed well with the twin 200HP Yamaha outboards - the perfect match to lift her onto the plane. It did not feel heavy at the helm at all. You certainly notice the wide 3m beam - plenty of room to get around so if you are into diving for example then I imagine you could comfortably fit half a dozen sets of gear on the deck.

If however fishing is your thing then she is well equipped. Reelax game poles already installed, eight rod holders mounted on the fibreglass T-Top and another few around the transom. The cockpit is quite open and has a removable rear seat providing even more space to fight a fish. There is also a Lofrans pot winch on the port side coaming.

I was expecting to get some spray over the bow on the day we carried out the shoot however again I was pleasantly surprised at how dry she was. Know doubt coming back from you days adventure with a still sea breeze you will be vulnerable however a set of clear removable screens will protect all your passenger from the helm back.

If you do choose to spend a night onboard there is a double V-berth up in the bow and an electric toilet. This cabin is totally lockable.

The hand rails, rocket launchers and hard top supports appear to be high quality and heavy gauge stainless steel. I'm sure the top could support the weight of an adult so if you added some roof racks this would be an excellent spot to store the boards, bikes and water toys to keep them clear of the deck.

It's a shame Chris Bowra didn't continue to produce the Master Class 30 as they are a fantastic setup for a multitude of water activities.

How could this package get any better you ask. Well, included in the purchase price of the vessel is an Airberth and the availability of a pen at Pier 21. Within minutes the boat can be lowered into the water and you'll be heading out to your favourite location. Upon your return she lifts completely out of the water while you're unloading. No boat ramps to contend with and no antifouling to worry about!

Airberth Model: PBX240/2 240-volt.
