David Gulpilil honoured with Longford Lyell Award | 2021 AACTA Awards

The late David Gulpilil Ridjimiraril Dalaithngu AM was honoured with AACTA’s highest honour, the Longford Lyell Award, for his outstanding contribution to Australian cinema for over five decades,

Hailing from the Mandhalpingu clan of the Yolŋu people and raised in Arnhem land, the actor starred in films including Storm Boy, Crocodile Dundee, Ten Canoes and Charlie's Country.

AACTA began work on the tribute in early 2021, with Gulpilil accepting the award in November from South Australia as he was unable to travel. At the 2021 AACTA Awards Presented by Foxtel Group, he was honoured by friends and colleagues including #LeahPurcell (The Drover's Wife: The Legend of Molly Johnson) and #HughJackman. His image was projected onto the eastern Bennelong sails of the Sydney Opera House.
