SAN SEBASTIAN STREET FESTIVAL, San Juan | The biggest party in Puerto Rico

We attended the biggest party in Puerto Rico: The San Sebastian Street Festival in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico!

San Sebastian Festival takes place each year around mid-January, and it honors Saint Sebastian, who has a street named after him in Viejo San Juan.

The tradition started in the 1950s when a group of Puerto Ricans decided to start a small festival on Calle San Sebastian.

The official Festival of San Sebastian, or SanSe Festival, starts with a parade, which is famous for its Cabezudos - paper mache big heads. These Cabezudos are Puerto Rican folklore characters, and to see them in the San Sebastian Street parade was absolutely exhilarating - lots of energy in the crowd.

You can also find some Puerto Rican street food at the San Sebastian Festival. The street food of Puerto Rico is sold everywhere at the festival. They only accept cash, by the way.

There are tons of stages set up throughout Viejo San Juan. We attended the Gente de Zona concert on the main stage - one of Michael's favorite Latino groups.
