Seiko | Prospex LX “SkyLine” SNR049J1 | Review

Seiko may not be renowned for their space-faring escapades, however, in 1973 they sent the first automatic wristwatch into space on the wrist of Colonel William Pogue. More recently, in 2008, the Japanese watchmaker built a unique piece dubbed the Seiko Spring Drive Spacewalk for Richard Garriott, the sixth civilian in space and now in 2020 we see the launch of the new Seiko Prospex LX Skyline, Ref. SNR049J1 which is firmly inspired by these two previous watches. Housing a spring drive GMT movement and a sporting a divided dial designed to imitate the view of curvature of the Earth, as seen from the International Space Station, it’s certainly an interesting piece. We get hands-on with the closest thing you can get to a Grand Seiko, without the “Grand “moniker and let you know our thoughts.
