New York's transportation system is a complex, integrated network of various transportation and infrastructure systems. It includes one of the largest and oldest subway systems in the world, commuter, intercity and airport rail systems, the world's first mechanically ventilated vehicular tunnel, aerial tram system and various ferries between Manhattan and New Jersey.
New York City is also a home to an extensive bus system in each of the five boroughs, and for private vehicles - a system of expressways and parkways are there to connect New York City with its numerous and densely populated suburbs.
Having in mind the rail is the dominant mode of transportation in New York City and that the rail system within New York is a combination of several different, huge and complex systems, in this video, we tried to briefly explain each of them.
If you watched our video, now go to Simply Railway, virtually board the train at Jamaica Station, and begin your journey on the Long Island Railroad.
Enjoy!
