Testing lenses for Gamma radiation : Ricoh XR RIkenon 35mm F2.8 lens (Pentax K) with sample images.

The Ricoh XR Rikenon is somewhat rare lens and the owner said they found it in a recycle bin. It get a good cleaning before it gets tested for radioactive elements. The method of cleaning lenses differs from person to person. Here is how I do it. With a quick test, the images are wonderful.

Dosimeter: Este Air Counter S gamma radiation detector.
After background radiation is normalized, the lens is placed 1cm below the detector's sensor. The lens is then reversed to see which side emits more radiation. The update rate of the Air Counter S dosimeter is about every 10 seconds.
