A look at the rise and fall of Worldspace, a satellite radio system set to provide music, news and information to the developing world. It ultimately failed to attract huge amounts of listeners and fell into obscurity.

An interesting feature was the ability to sent multimedia and education services to regions that needed it by plugging the radios into a PC.

With their satellite antennas and Y2K design, these radios can't be listened to nowadays (except the two that have FM and AM modes). Nevertheless they look remarkable and are certainly different to any other radio I've seen.

Their detachable antennas could be pointed at the satellites to receive a signal.
