CREATING INFORMATION GRAPHICS AND INTEGRATING WITH OTHER PROGRAMS
PROJECT STEPS
1. As a project coordinator in the tourism department for the Township of Reef Island in Florida, you have developed a presentation that summarizes tourism statistics for the third quarter to be delivered to the town council. You decide to make some edits before delivering the presentation.
Begin by viewing the presentation in Outline View, and then navigate to Slide 2 ("Key Takeaways"). Make the following changes to the text:
a. Add was before "on" in the bullet item in "In Q3, tourism demand on the rise."
b. Move Slide 5 ("Average Length of Stay") below Slide 6 ("Hotel Occupancy Rates"). Return to Normal View.
2. On Slide 3 ("Quarter 3 Tourism"), format the table to match the other tables in the presentation:
3. With Slide 3 ("Quarter 3 Tourism") still displaying, enhance the outside border of the table:
4. With Slide 3 ("Quarter 3 Tourism") still displaying, enhance the inside border of the table:
5. On Slide 4 ("Arrivals at a Glance"), insert a linked pie chart as follows:
6. On Slide 5 ("Hotel Occupancy Rates"), enhance the table as follows:
7. With Slide 5 ("Hotel Occupancy Rates") still displaying, modify column widths and row heights:
a. Change the width of "Revenue per Available Room" to 5.7" so it fits on one line.
b. Change the width of the remaining three columns to 1.3".
c. Change the height of all four rows in the table to 0.7".
8. On Slide 6 ("Average Length of Stay"), enhance the table:
a. Apply the Slant Bevel effect to all the table cells.
b. Right-align the data in Row 3 of the table.
c. Change the color of the shading applied to the entire table to Dark Blue, Text 2 (4th column, 1st row in the Theme Colors palette).
d. Change the font color to White, Background 1 (1st column, 1st row in the Theme Colors palette).
9. With Slide 6 still displaying, further enhance the table:
a. Merge the five cells in Row 1 of the table to make one cell.
b. Change the height of Row 1 to exactly 2.4".
c. Fill the merged row with the picture file Support_PPT365_6A_Beach.jpg.
d. Change the width of the entire table to 11".
10. On Slide 7 ("Popular Activities"), modify the column chart as follows:
a. Change the chart type to Clustered Bar.
b. Add a Primary Vertical axis title to the chart with the text Activity.
c. Format the Primary Vertical axis title in Bold and 20 point.
d. Use the mouse to move the Primary Vertical axis title up so it doesn't cover any of the bar labels.
e. Add Primary Major Vertical gridlines to the chart.
11. On Slide 8 ("Expenditures"), modify the pie chart as follows:
a. Change the colors of the pie chart to Colorful Palette 2.
b. Edit the chart data by changing the value for Entertainment & Recreation to $80,000.
c. Explode the pie chart slice (lime green) representing "Transportation" by 40%.
d. Change the chart layout to Layout 1 for the entire chart.
e. Change the position of the data labels to Best Fit, if necessary.
f. Increase the font size of the data labels to 14 point.
g. Edit the chart title to Expenditures by Category.
h. Resize the pie chart to a width of 9" and a height of 4.4".
12. On Slide 9 ("Obstacles to Growth"), enhance the table:
a. Change the direction of the data in Row 1 of the table to Horizontal.
b. Distribute the table rows so that each row is the same height.
c. Apply the Half Reflection: Touching reflection effect to the table.
d. Resize the table width to 9.5".
In Slide Sorter view, your presentation should look like the Final Figure on the following page. Save your changes, close the presentation, and exit PowerPoint. Follow the directions on the website to submit your completed project.
