Coast To Coast Trail (Singapore)... in reverse... on a Brompton

hen this C2C Trail was first announced, my mind went "Meh? Okay, it ends near the Coney Island which is just off the coast of Punggol, but why start at Jurong Lake Gardens?" I guess what NParks mean is from the West Coast area to the Northeast area.

Anyway, I live in the Sengkang, so it makes more sense for me to do it in reverse than most people doing it. Speaking of which, I am surprised how popular this trail is. Not in droves, but I did see people gathering at checkpoints, some on hiking gears, groups checking maps or phones then pointing to landmarks, etc. Its also the COVID-19 situation that made people itch to go out and explore even in their backyard while its a huge hassle to fly out.

NParks have hit a jackpot marketing what essentially are just a collection of parks and connectors strung together. Its a good reference trail to follow, but honestly you can just come up with your own route anyway, pick your preferred waypoints for a more personal and meaningful route. Which was why I reacted with a "meh" first as I had something similar "coast to coast" in mind just the month before it came out. Its a lot like cycling's round-the-island route, everyone's got their own route.

Why ride this trail though? Well why not. Plus, with the Brompton, I cycled to Clementi bus interchange afterwards (on the road, faster), folded and rode a bus all the way home 😜.
