"The Education Ministry had proposed to provide breakfast to school children along with providing one hot cooked meal every day as a part of its mid-day meal scheme extension. The same was proposed in the National Education Policy 2020 last year. The proposal was also presented before the cabinet this year ahead of the budget session. This plan was estimated to cost around 4000 Crore rupees to the Central govt coffer.
But, according to reports, the finance ministry refused to approve this plan.
