How did Prince become famous?

Born Prince Rogers Nelson on June 7, 1958 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Prince was destined to become a musician. It's no surprise how Prince changed the music industry forever, as both his parents were music artists and Prince through the years wowed audiences with his incredible vocals, stunning performances, and flamboyant outfits and fashion sense.

Prince drew inspiration from Stevie Wonder and learned to play dozens of instruments. His first album Prince's 'For You' debuted in 1978. In 1982, Prince's 1999 album came out earning him his first Grammy nominations for Best Male Vocal Performance in the Pop and R&B categories.

Prince's Purple Rain then came out in 1984 and took the world by storm, both through music and on the big screen. Purple Rain including hits like 'When Doves Cry,' 'Let's Go Crazy.' and 'I Would Die 4 U'.

The next chart topper to win Prince a Grammy was the hit song 'Kiss.' After the success of Kiss, Tim Burton reached out to Prince to ask him to write, perform, and produce music for 'Batman' – which resulted in hits that topped the Billboard 200 for six weeks.

Prince continued to make music through the next few decades until the tragic day on April 21, 2016, when Prince was pronounced dead after being found unconscious in his home from an accidental pain medication overdose.

Though his death was premature, Prince leaves behind a legacy and an everlasting impact on the music industry that will continue to live on through his music and through all the talented artists of today who pay homage to his word — artists like Janelle Monae, Beyonce, Justin Timerberlake, Burno Mars, and so many others.
