L’eroica was started by a man called Giancarlo Brocci, who admired the values of a past cycling so much that he wanted to reconnect others to the heritage that inspired much Italian history, literature, culture, and music. The main intent of organizing L’Eroica is to protect and uphold the heritage Tuscany’s “Strade Bianchi” white roads.

In 2016 L’Eroica celebrates its 20th anniversary.
