Wall Angels Exercise - Stretching Your Hip Stabilizers for Better Range of Motion when Walking

This is a great exercise to loosen the hip stabilizing muscles which help prevent your hips from moving side-to-side when walking.

Stand with your back against a wall and your feet hip width apart, toes facing forward. Lace your fingers and place your hands behind your head. Next, squeeze your shoulder blades together so that your elbows are touching the wall. Lean side to side while keeping your elbows touching the wall. Keep your heels in contact with the ground. Do not let your hips shift from side-to-side. When you've leaned as far as you can, forcefully blow the air out of your lungs. This will allow you to stretch a little farther. Use your stomach muscles to draw you back to center. Practice for 1 minute instead of doing a specific number. That way you can spend as much time as you need on each side.

I like to follow this exercise with some cats and dogs or a counter stretch to lengthen my body front-to-back.
