Born in 1944 in Kingsport, Tennessee and raised in Sneedville, Tennessee, Lawson became known for his exceptional mandolin playing and especially for his precise, soaring harmony arrangements. In 1979 he formed his influential band Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, which became famous for tight quartet-style vocals and a strong focus on gospel music. Over decades of touring and recording, Lawson helped shape the modern bluegrass sound and mentored many younger musicians, earning numerous honors from the International Bluegrass Music Association and a place in the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame. 🎻
