System of A Down - PIG (Bass Cover)

Oh boy, where do I begin with this song? This is one of the few songs where I started to fall in love with the bass guitar. The drop B tuning (or Standard 5 string tuning) makes it one of the heaviest songs SOAD has ever recorded. (along with the other songs in the first demo tape) And it's more impressive that Shavo had been playing less than a year when he recorded his bassline.

The 2nd half of this song is where the song really shines. This is where the Mr. Jack bassline similarities are the most noticeable but the only difference is that it's in the key of B instead of C and that he's letting the lower B string ring instead of the octave C. I honestly prefer this bassline to Mr. Jack because the bassline closes off the song quite nicely.

So 3 things to note are that I didn't include the Coda (tail section) of this song in my cover because I felt like the tail section doesn't really fit well with the rest of the song. (maybe I'll record it in the future) and secondly I played fingerstyle instead of a pick because it's how I prefer playing the bass guitar. I know some people are picky as fuck when it comes to stuff like that but these covers although they try to be accurate they are personalized for my style of playing. And finally, PIG was mixed really weird... like there is so much bass in the first half and on the 2nd half the EQ is insanely high. I tried my best trying to lower the EQ to remove Shavo's bass line but even with it reduced it's still audible.
