Rawtenstall New Astoria & shopping precinct demolition. March 2012

Rawtenstall Precinct was opened in 1972, and upstairs contained the council-run New Astoria Ballroom, named after The Astoria, a privately-run dance hall which had been demolished in the late '60s to make way for St Mary's Way, the A56 Bank St bypass.
Although the old Astoria had hosted the likes of The Kinks and Them, this one had a strict anti rock-n-roll policy.. No long hair, no denims etc!! Here it is being demolished after 40 years of tea dances and the odd Fivepenny piece gig. The shops below were thriving until the advent of three local supermarkets.
