0:38 - CHANGI CLUSTER GROWS TO 59
There were 52 new coronavirus cases, including 24 in the community, as at Friday noon (May 14). Of the community cases, four are currently unlinked. Thirteen are linked to the Changi Airport cluster, taking the total number of patients in the largest active cluster to 59. The remaining seven community cases are linked to previous cases. The other 28 cases were imported and had been placed on stay-home notice on arrival in Singapore.
People will be allowed out in groups of only two from this Sunday (May 16) until June 13, with dining in prohibited as Singapore tightens its Covid-19 restrictions to stamp out the spread of cases in the community.
Households will also not be allowed to receive more than two distinct visitors per day. Individuals should continue to cap their social gatherings at two a day as well.
Professor Teo Yik Ying, dean of the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health at the National University of Singapore, discusses whether these tighter restrictions are necessary, given that the previous round came into effect less than a week ago.
14:35 - MANDATORY TRAY RETURN
It will be mandatory for diners to return their trays and clear their table litter from June 1. Table litter includes used tissues, wet wipes, straws, canned drinks, plastic bottles and food remnants. Read the story: https://str.sg/Jv5n
