Red Tower Lifting for the 1680m Span Lugu Lake Bridge

These towering red portal towers belong to the Lugu Lake Mega Bridge under construction. With a main span of 1680 meters and a deck height of 493 meters above the water, it will become one of the world’s largest-span mountain canyon suspension bridges. In the footage, a green tower crane lifts multi-ton tower segments precisely onto the red structure, while workers tie rebar and pour concrete on high-altitude platforms. The portal towers use a steel-concrete composite design, where the red steel framework provides construction-phase support and will work with the concrete tower to withstand the massive tension from the main cables. The 1680-meter main span allows the bridge to cross the canyon in a single span, eliminating the need for piers in the water or at the canyon floor, but also means cable and deck installation must contend with stronger canyon winds. Every step of construction pushes the limits of mountain bridge building, turning an impassable canyon into a soon-to-be-connected corridor via this steel giant.
