Training flight of Belgian Air Force 40SQN SAR NH90. Each day a crew of 5 is standing by for SAR duty from Koksijde. The 40SQN flies the NH90 NFH since 2014. The crews or trained to the highest level. The NH90 is the successor of the mighty Sea King.

Koksijde Air Base has 300 employees. They are responsible for a whole series of assignments:

-rescue operations at sea and land (search and rescue of SAR)
-medical evacuations of the seriously ill or injured
- support to other units: support for naval operations, ...
-support for the implementation of contingency plans
-contracts for the government and other federal government departments
-support to the police: search for missing persons, monitor the coast, ...
