Aircraft In Flight Over the World - WATCH THE SUN | CO2 Emission | Alternative Energy

I cannot locate this video on YouTube so I re-posted it. It shows a typical day with aircraft fiying over the world.

What alternative energy do we have that will power an aircraft?

A modern Boeing 737 has a range of 6400 miles and a fuel capacity of 6800 US gallons. That's about 1 mile per gallon. Fully loaded it will carry 125 passengers. So a fully loaded 737 gets about 125 miles per passenger gallon.

Not all planes are fully loaded so an aircraft will get about 100 miles per passenger gallon on average.

That is about the same as a newer automobile carrying 4 people.

And this does not include all the energy burned by support operations at the airports (electricity, heat, AC, support vehicles, busses, rental cars, pickups, drop offs,...). It takes a lot of energy to run an airport!

737 engines each produce over 25,000 pound feet of thrust. There is no green source capable of doing this, is there?

Takes another look at the attached video. It shows the aircraft flying over the world in a 24 hour period (watch the sun). Incredible the amount of fuel all of these planes consume in one day! It is mind boggling.

Is buying a hybrid car going to save much energy? Another fact you have to consider that it takes as much energy to build a transport vehicle (car, plane, train) as is burned in it over it's life.

We will need fossil fuels for a very long time, we may be able to supplement some of this need, but only a small fraction.
