Want a convenient way to keep your phone clean and germ free? A UV sanitizer offers a quick and easy way to disinfect your phone, as well as things like keys or credit cards, and the mophie UV Sanitizer I have here today also doubles as a 10 watt fast wireless charger. More functionality and less counter clutter—let’s take a closer look!

According to the information on mophie’s website, the UV sanitizing cycle will kill 99.9% of the most common surface bacteria. However, no one knows whether it will kill the coronavirus—there just isn’t enough research on that yet.

The mophie UV Sanitizer with Wireless Charging is relatively small and lightweight, and is made of white plastic. The lid has a wireless charger built into it, and the UV sanitizing chamber is large enough to fit most smartphones, including the iPhone 11 Pro Max. It fits my 11, 11 Pro and Galaxy s20 Plus with their cases on with no issues.

The chamber has 4 UV lights to disinfect whatever hard, non porous objects are put inside. And there is no need to turn over your phone—the sanitizing cycle does both sides of your phone at once, due to the small bumps on the interior which elevate the phone enough so that the UV light can hit the backside of your phone. The cycle takes 5 minutes—at the end, it beeps 3 times to let you know it has finished. There is no visual indication that it is sanitizing. If you happen to open the lid during the sanitizing process, the UV lights will shut off—an important safety measure as UVC lights can cause serious eye damage in an extremely short amount of time. So don’t try to look at the light!

For wireless charging, simply place a Qi enabled device on the lid and it will start charging. You might need to move it slightly to make sure it hits the sweet charging spot, but once you get the right spot, the white power light will start pulsing slowly, indicating that charging is taking place. It works through cases up to 3 mm thick. The wireless charger is capable of fast charging up to 10 watts, but of course iPhones will only charge at 7.5 watts…at least for now.
Both the wireless charging and the UV sanitizing functionality can be done at the same time, but not on the same device. So, you can wirelessly charge your iPhone while you sanitize your AirPods Pro and your Apple Watch, for example. Or charge your AirPods while you sanitize your iPhone.

Overall, this is a clever and convenient device. The fact that it does both wireless charging and UV sanitizing means less counter clutter, which is great. Both functions work well, although the lack of grip on the wireless charging surface can allow your phone to get knocked off the charging sweet spot by mistake, potentially leaving you with an insufficiently charged device. And I wish there were a visual indicator of UV sanitizing—a different color light, or fast flashing light, or something. But overall, this is a nice multi-use product from mophie that should help to keep your phone charged and germ free!

* Sanitizer automatically stops when the lid is lifted.

* UV sanitization cycle takes only 5 minutes

* Multipurpose appliance—does both wireless charging and UV sanitizing.

* UV sanitizing chamber fits most phones and phone cases as well.

* Can also be used to disinfect other small, non porous objects such as remote controls, AirPods, credit cards, keys, etc. Not recommended for porous surfaces or cloth.

* Silent other than the beeping noise at the start and end of the sanitizing process. A single beep to mark the start of the cycle and three beeps to mark the end of it.

* Small footprint doesn’t take up much counter space

Wireless charging:

* Wireless charging can be used simultaneously with UV sanitizing, but not on the same object. You can charge your iPhone while UV sanitizing your keys, for example.

* Wireless charging works with any Qi enabled device. Supports 10 watt fast charging (although will only charge iPhones at 7.5 watts).

* Works through cases up to 3 mm thick.

* Light slowly pulses to let you know wireless charging is in progress

Cons:
* No visual indication to let you know the sanitizing cycle is taking place. It beeps when it starts and ends, but that is it.

* Wireless charging surface on device lid isn’t rubberized or anything to give it grip to keep your device from sliding about.
