Rigaku's New Direct Derivation Method Explained
https://rigaku.com/
Discover Rigaku's innovative direct derivation method for phase quantification. This technique bypasses database entries, using chemical formulas to determine phase ratios and quantities with remarkable accuracy, even in complex mixtures.
[13:38-14:11]
I would also like to spend a, a few slide on, uh, Rigaku's, uh, new developed, uh, direct derivation method. Dr. Hideo Toraya has been s- uh, spearheading this method. Where, uh, where using chemical composition, basically the chemical formula, multiple peak intensities in a wide range 2 theta can be assigned to each phase and can be ratio-ed. So this method, the idea is it doesn't involve any database entries. You can give the chemical formula to the f- known phases, and then any mixture of these phases, uh, can be quantitatively determined.
[14:11-14:33]
So if I go into the quantitative analysis in a little detail, the classic calibration curve are good up to 0.1%, but depends on the quality of calibration curve. So once you have 2, 3 known, you can create a calibration curve, and in that calibration curve, you can put your unknown and, and y- it will spit out what is that unknown amount, because it is on the calibration line.
[14:33-15:00]
The RIR quantification, easy, but low accuracy, uh, because they don't account for any preferred orientation at times, and, uh, they are based on single peak integrated intensity, intensity. WPPF, including Rietveld hole-patterning powder fitting, uh, uses a model, as I explained, and they are quite good, and can go as close as up to 4% in, uh, in relative amounts of the phases, an error of up to only 4%.
[15:00-15:21]
So that's, uh, that's a very well-known method nowadays, the Rietveld method. Um, but let's talk about this new method, direct derivation method, uh, developed by Hideo Toraya, and I have listed his publication here. Basically, it says the sum of str- uh, square of structure factor is proportional to the number of, chemical formula units.
