Key Outcomes of India's PM Visit to Mauritius
1. Enhanced Strategic Partnership: India and Mauritius elevated their ties to an Enhanced Strategic Partnership.
· Focus Areas: Strengthening Security, Promoting Trade in Local Currencies, Boosting Development Cooperation.
· Both reaffirmed their commitment to a Free, Open and Secure Indian Ocean.
2. Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA): Both countries agreed to ratify the protocol amending DTAA.
3. MAHASAGAR' Vision: India introduced the MAHASAGAR initiative (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security
and Growth Across Regions).
· Builds upon SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) initiative.
4. Security Cooperation: India and Mauritius agreed to enhance the use of Agalega Island's new runway and jetty, developed
by India.
· India reaffirmed its support for Mauritius's sovereignty over the Chagos Archipelago.
· Areas of strengthened cooperation: White Shipping (Monitoring Commercial Vessels), Blue Economy (Sustainable Use
of Marine Resources), Hydrography (Marine Mapping and Charting).
5. Developmental Support: India announced its first-ever rupee-denominated Line of Credit to:
· India will assist Mauritius in establishing a Police Academy and a Maritime Information – sharing Center.
· Mauritius President inaugurated Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Public Service and Innovation.
6. New Parliament Building: India will construct a New Parliament Building for Mauritius.
· Described as a “Gift from Mother of Democracy.
