What the Climate Crisis Really Means: Naomi Klein Decodes the Green New Deal
Best selling author Naomi Klein discussed her new book, "ON FIRE: The (Burning) Case for a Green New Deal," which argues the case for a fundamental transformation of our economy and politics as climate disruptions accelerate. She reported from the front-lines of climate catastrophes and explores their inter-connectedness with some of the topmost issues of our time–economic inequality, immigration and political corruption. Klein is an award-winning journalist and New York Times bestselling author of, "No Is Not Enough: Resisting the New Shock Politics and Winning the World We Need (2017)," "This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. The Climate (2014)," "The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism (2007)" and "No Logo (2000)." She is Senior Correspondent for The Intercept and is the inaugural Gloria Steinem Chair in Media, Culture and Feminist Studies at Rutgers University. She was in discussion with Mark Schapiro, lecturer at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism and author of the recently published, "SEEDS OF RESISTANCE: The Fight to Save Our Food Supply," an investigation into the battle to control the seeds capable of responding to accelerating climate disruptions.
Co-hosted by UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism Dean Edward Wasserman and Dr. Daniel Kammen, a Professor of Energy at the University of California, Berkeley, with parallel appointments in the Energy and Resources Group, the Goldman School of Public Policy, and the department of Nuclear Engineering.
