PLOTCON 2017: Alastair Dant, Visual tools for Research & Development
R & D labs often seek to define and improve production processes. While a well-written protocol spells out a process like a favorite recipe, few standards exist for exchanging process designs and associated experimental data in a more structured fashion. This talk showcases Riffyn's web-based tools for collaborative process design and experimental analysis.
Our process designer simplifies the graphical representation of steps and the resources that flow between them. With modular composition and versioning, Riffyn makes it easy for teams to author and share process flow diagrams featuring detailed resource descriptions - the ‘ingredients’ whose attributes can be varied experimentally in the search for improved outcomes.
Once a structured representation of a process is available, Riffyn connects results from discrete experimental steps into a single dataset. This led us to build an interactive visual analysis tool that uses WebGL to explore, filter and annotate large volumes of records with high dimension counts direct from the browser. Favorable results can then be fed back directly into process design improvements.
