Historic Village of Dorothy Alberta | Restored Churches and Original Grain Elevator【4K】

The village of Dorothy is located southeast of Drumheller. It sits in the Red Deer River valley in the heart of the Canadian Badlands.

The village was never very large at maybe 100 at its peak. It now has a dozen or less residents in the area.

A store keeper living in the area applied to have a post office and wanted to name the area Percyville. It was decided instead to name the area Dorothy, after the daughter of Jack Wilson. He was an early rancher who first arrived in the area in 1900. The Dorothy post office officially opened in 1908.

The village grew slowly and its greatest prosperity was in the late 1920s shortly after a railway line was built through the area.

All that remains of main street is an old decaying garage and an abandoned store.

At one time the village had three grain elevators (Alberta Wheat Pool, Alberta Pacific and the United Grain Growers). The only one that remains is the Alberta Pacific.

Take a trip back to the past as I explore this old historic village.
