On the other hand, a red alert is a "take action" warning, which is issued when a rainfall above 204.5mm is expected in a day. The alerts are issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to warn people of the potential risks associated with heavy rainfall. The IMD issues these alerts for various parts of the country. The alerts are color-coded to indicate the level of severity, with red being the highest category of weather warning and indicating a severe risk to life and property.
