Discord wants YOU to PAY...

Discord needs to raise over $500 million, to enable certain plans to be actioned throughout the next few months. This new funding requirement will affect you as a Discord user, in both the short and long-term in relation to platform features. Discord currently has several monetizable features such as Discord Nitro, in-game purchases for Discord Voice Call Games, Server Boosts and a variety of others. Although, these revenue streams do not generate enough money per year to meet the needed development plans for the application. Therefore, Discord are seeking investors through previous funding rounds and new investors to raise the cash - helping them bridge the gap between their 7 billion dollar valuation in 2020, to their wanted 15 billion dollar valuation in 2021. But this is only part of Discord’s plan to help move them towards joining Wall Street and becoming a Public Company with buyable shares - and potential shareholders. If Discord becomes a public company, they will be encouraged and needed to become heavily profitable - but as they lack sufficient monetary income through their current revenue streams… users could be expected to see a whole host of pay-wall / money required Discord features. This was spoken about by the Discord CEO, Jason Citron, in an interview conducted by the Wall Street Journal in August 2021. They have already been testing these out by adding new Discord Nitro features, and pushing the subscription service out through Free Discord Nitro promotions with YouTube and Epic Games. Alongside this, they have tested other monetised perks with the likes of stickers and stage tickets! We can expect to see more in the future, meaning those who cannot afford to purchase these products might miss out on a lot of brand new Discord features, even though the main core should stay completely free and accessible. We are expected to see new features surrounding paid badges, customisation, custom Discord Themes and Ringtones according to one particular source.

In the background of this video I am on the largest Minecraft Server in the world, Hypixel. The game mode is Bridge Duels where I engage in PvP with other players.
