Italian Glacier Covered Up to Prevent Melting

Officials are attempting to save the melting Presena glacier in northern Italy by placing protective covering over parts of it every year.

Experts say that the monthlong operation can save about 70% of the covered snow.

The glacier is covered in reflective strips that measure 5-meters by 70-meters.

The strips reflect the solar radiation away from the glacier so the snow does not melt as much.
