Brancusi

Ce film, entièrement dévolu à l'Atelier Brancusi à Paris, est un voyage à travers le travail d'un artiste à l'influence majeure. Aborder l'œuvre de Brancusi comme on ne l'a encore jamais vue ni filmée, la regarder avec un œil qui enveloppe les volumes des sculptures et donne à percevoir leurs relations dans l'espace où elles gravitent, tel est l'enjeu de ce film. Constantin Brancusi (1876-1957) est l'un des premiers sculpteurs à avoir expérimenté l'art abstrait sans toutefois aller jusqu'à l'abstraction pure. Dans son testament, il lègue à l'État français la totalité de son atelier du XVe arrondissement à Paris, reconstruit à l'identique, sur la place du Centre Pompidou. Le film tisse des liens entre cette collection unique au monde et les nombreux films d'amateur, d'une incroyable richesse, que Brancusi tourna entre 1923 et 1939.

This film, shot entirely at the Atelier Brancusi in Paris, is a journey through the work of a seminal artist. Constantin Brancusi (1876-1957) profoundly influenced modern concepts of form in sculpture, painting and industrial design. This documentary shows the artist's work in an entirely new way, with a camera that surrounds his sculptures, revealing their relationships with the enveloping space. In his will, he left his studio in the 15th arrondissement to the French state, which was later moved and rebuilt at the Centre Pompidou. Images of this unique collection are interwoven with surprisingly rich amateur footage shot by Brancusi himself between 1923 and 1939.
